Father gifted me old SKS - How do I make it legal?

My father gifted me an old SKS he picked up cash at a gun show 20 or so years ago in Wisconsin. I'm sure it's not registered.. gun shows in Wisconsin back in the day were pretty much free for all.

How do I make this legal and legit in Cali?

Yes, in his garage in the OC.

So long as the SKS is not one marked SKS and has a det. magazine, or a fixed magazine with more than 10 rounds, or has a grenade launcher what you guys just did is fine and legal. Handguns are a different isssue.

As long as it does not qualify as a CA AW, the transfer to you is already legal. I'm willing to put money on the fact that it is not "registered". There is no mandatory "registration" of non-AW long guns in California. Also, "back in the day" we could FTF just about any type of firearm we wanted in California. I've bought guns FTF from newspaper adds, gun shows, friends and college roommates. No paperwork was required for any PPTs before 1991.
