I know others have had better success, but my experience with the Auto-Ord semi TSMG's has been universally bad.

The HK is 100% reliable and you could rebuild it into close to a UMP configuration legally.

    I'd go with the HK.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

"Strip away the "as used by the special operations community" mystique and what you end up with is an oversized ten shot plastic rifle for an obscenely high cost to performance ratio."

Not my quote, but from a reviewer discussing the main reason the weapon was pulled from the market by HK (poor sales). I don't know squat about the USC, and have only handled a couple of different Thompson models. Personally, I would love to be able to afford a Thompson, for it's historical significance (my dad carried one in WWII). It's the AC Cobra/P-51 Mustang of those types of weapons. This new purchase is for your collection, Si?

the "tommy" is quite heavy but loads of fun to shoot!

I almost got one a few years back and then I remembered i live in CA where fun toys are neutered.

I have seen full setups with drum magazine complete gun cleaning kit and dispay case selling for under 2k but alas that wasnt in CA.

Yes, it IS the AC Cobra of guns. BTW, don't shoot mine!

If you get the USC be prepared to practice some restraint... it could be a money pit, in your quest to turn it into a UMP clone.. and you will never save enough for a tommy gun haha

I love it when someone says they don't know squat about a gun yet feel compelled to flame one very fine weapon publically with second hand information. Why not just pass along and not comment?

I have owned up to 4 USC's at one time (two black, two grey). I am down to two now and will not sell one. I have paid upwards of $1,900.00 during the craze and sold one recently for $1,400.00...The cheapest I have scored one for recently is $1250.00 I think the going rate now is around $1,300 for a gray and $1,450.00 for a black one.

The HK USC is without a doubt the most on target carbine I have ever shot, and I have Uzi's, MAC carbines, MP5 clones, and AR pistols, etc.

The USC is almost the perfect gun...almost because the trigger is not like a 1911, but all in all, its one hell of a shooter. When you pick it up and hold it, place it to your shoulder and see the almost perfect sight pciture, bump fire it...all with that distinctive HK USC Thump...you will never look back for a Tommy gun. Sure, the tommy gun will draw a crowd, and so will the HK, but the HK will also allow you to reach out easily to 100 yards with a 45 acp round and hit the bull consistantly.

Agreed -- it has virtually no felt recoil and is very easy to keep on target.

So what is the preferred method of making a USC CA compliant? Raddlock or a Kydex grip wrap?

Forgive me for my ignorance/thread hijack. I have never seen them that cheap ever. Where are you sourcing them at that price? I feel like everyone I see selling them wants about $1800 for them.

I'd imagine Raddlock. I think the USC still uses proprietary magazines so no one has pre-bans, besides that thumbhole stock is soooo comfortable.

Just keep an eye on the private sales. There was a slew of them back in January that went very cheaply.

I stopped buying more! I think one of each color is enough. You can only shoot two at a time right??
