    What 1,000 yards looks like

For you guys who are interested in trying this, here's what 1,000 yard targets look like at the range in Cuyama (1X on my camera). Yes, those little white blurs to the left of the flags are the 6 feet wide target frames.

Here's how real shooters do it. Open sights on a tight sling with the AR and heavy bullets (loaded long and single loaded in the gun):
BTW this isn't me, I'm a scoped gun shooter.

Heh. You got to be relaxed to take a shot like that.

I was Frank's guest one morning at the Cuyama range. I can veryify that those little white dots are a looonnnnggggg ways down range. It takes five minutes to drive down the little trail to get there! I highly recommend going out there to see it for yourself. If nothing else, go out and watch and learn how to run the targets in the pit. Great fun and certainly worth your time.

Sooner or later the stars are going to align and I will be able to take my 300WM out to give it a try. They practice on Saturdays and do the competition on Sundays. Great stuff and still amazed at those guys with open sights using no support but a sling. True marksmen.

Wow I am going over the distance and sights in my memory, and my mind is perplexed. I remember the sight post being larger than the target @ 1000.

That is impressive shooting to say the least.

Heck if he was in spandex or a speedo and could make those shots I wouldn't care. Well, okay, maybe I would

What kind of groups do they get/expect/aim under those variables?
