A "556" chambered in "223" only......weird.

i'm pretty sure my sig 556s say 5.56 NATO somewhere on them....

I am sure that people have discussed this matter here on CG before but im still not sure. my question is, Is it SAFE to use 5.56x45 NATO ammo in a Sig Sauer 556 that is chambered with .223?

Truth is...I dont know of a 223 exclusive "556 Sig"....


And to answer the question....its not good to use 5.56 in a rifle chambered for only 223. It is however ok the other way around.

Well...according to sig...they are 5.56 nato chambered.

It's Turners. If they only put '5.56' in their ad, about half the potential buyers wouldn't have a clue what that meant. Since the .223 is perfectly fine in the 5.56 chamber, they throw that in there too.
