Selling Pre Ban FN FAL and AK47

A friend has pre ban registered FN FAL and Romanian AK he wants to get rid of. Since he can't sell it whole, can he sell them as parts to me like the uppers and pretty much everything but the lowers? Is it legal and possible to install an FN FAL complete upper to a lower of another brand like DSA or Enterprise? And how much would you say is the value of this used original FN FAL upper? Used with maybe a 2-3K rounds through it. As for the AK that would be different since the receiver would be harder to dismantle from the barrel.

Just so you know, the FAL UPPER is the controlled part. Not the lower.

It depends on where the serial number is located. I don't know where FAL serials are stamped, but if they're stamped on the upper then that's the part you have to register, and you wouldn't be able to do that in CA. However, if the lower is the serialed half, then FN uppers are safe.

Tnaks guys. Looks like it is a no go then. He'll probably have to go out of state then to sell them.

You're confusing the FAL with the FNC. Some FNCs have the serial number on the lower but majority are on the upper.

All FALs have the upper as the controlled part.

Really? I just recently purchased a FAL parts kit that has all the parts except the FAL (lower) receiver. I haven't done the build yet, mainly because I don't know how and someone is going to help me. But he's an experienced builder and told me all I needed was my DSA Type 1 FAL Receiver.

The DSA Type 1 FAL receiver is the upper.

To the OP, tell your friend, if his FAL is a real FN, it's worth more in one piece if he sells it to an out of state buyer.

well tickle me pink .. I guess it just looks like an AR lower to me so I didn't realize it was the upper receiver..

Ditto on this. A real FN FAL is worth a lot more than a frankengun.

The upper is the part that needs the FFL. Be careful building it. You may need more than just the DSA receiver. You may need other 922r compliance(USA) parts as well. The the op tell your buddy to keep the rifle if he can. Those og fals r hard to come by.
