Legality of collapsible stock on Saiga Conversion?

Hello everyone, I just purchased my first rifle, a 7.62 x 39mm Saiga 16", and I was looking into converting it. I'm hoping to put a collapsible stock, like the Tapco T6 on it, so my friends of all sizes could enjoy shooting it comfortably.

I wasn't sure though, whether it would become illegal after adding the stock, due to the reduction of length. After converting it to pistol grip and adding the collapsible stock, would the overall length be less than the legal limit of 31 inches, when the stock is collapsed?

    Thanks.

If your adding a pistol grip and collapsable stock you will need a maglock device to make it a fixed magazine build.

I don't remember if the pistol grip setup also requires 922r compliance or not either.

I plan on using the maglock and using all 922r compliance parts, I was just wondering if after putting on the collapsible stock, would the length of the rifle be shorter than 31 inches?

I'm not sure where you got 31", because the legal limit is 30" - either way you're good to go with the Tapco stock as long as you do the 922r/maglock dance...

Thanks djleisure, I just looked at the flowchart and it is indeed 30", dont actually know how i got 31".

After the maglock and 922r conversion, can I simply disregard the 30" minimum, or will it be longer than 30" even in collapsed form?

            Thanks again.

From the back of the receiver to the barrel is 25" on my Saiga. Gotta come up with 5" of stock. Unless it is a side-folder you should be more than 30" with an adjustable AR-style stock.

I have a T6 on my saiga, and it measures more than 30" even when fully collapsed. So, as long as you have a bullet button, (I recommend the PRK for any AK), and stick to 10 round mags or 10/30's you are good to go!

i was actually considering doing this to mine also, but i couldn't find a reasonably priced side folder that i liked. i did find one that didn't require any gunsmithing (installation of an interior block) to install the side folder, and in the process would have given me another couple inches of length, but after reading the reviews i was not super impressed. even with that extra couple inches, i was still going to be about 2.5" short of the required 30" OAL. you can solve that problem however w/ an appropriately sized muzzle break / flash hider - just be careful w/ the 922r compliance on everything.

the end result of all of the above is that i opted to go w/ the fiberforce dragunov style stock. NOT the russian one for unconverted rifles, the one that's designed for ak's and will require the FCG to be moved back to it's original location.
