AR Stripped Lower

So im in the L.A. area and looking for an AR stripped lower. I always see these awesome prices online, but by the time it gets to you the cost is dumb. I want to avoid shipping/transfer fees etc. All shops I have been to seem to be ripping people. Any suggestions?

Gun show + cash possibly? Perhaps a quick trip to the private sales section here? Maybe an 80% if you're a DIYer?

Go to T&A Armory in Santa Ana. $125 Mega lowers. $150 complete polymer lowers with collapsible stock. $200 NDS retro lowers with LPK. Buy multiple and put it all on one DROS. Save $$. Same applies for transfers into their FFL. Buy multiple.

I think you think Riflegear is only an online vendor. They have an actual store in Costa Mesa. Anything they sell on their website they have at the store for the same price. Nice thing about the store is that you don't have to pay for shipping because you get things over the counter (with the exception of firearms and receivers ofcourse). They have great customer service too.

I didnt realize they were in costa mesa. Funny because I sent them an email last night telling them that I am in L.A. California and which local FFL's they would send to. The email went out soon after they were mentioned here. So... roughly 11pm ish. She replied back immediately. EXCELLENT customer service right? Except for the fact that she didnt mention I could pick up directly from them in COSTA MESA. haha... its all good.

Well, I guess the only thing that beats there price is a used/private party sale. You guys have all been pretty helpful. I appreciate it.

So most PPT's run 35, and If i bought locally I would also have to pay 35 dros +tax right? Buying the lower is just as if I purchased a long gun.

True PPTs are $35 by law ($25 DROS + $10 for dealer). Buying from a dealer locally means sales tax plus $25 DROS.

Im getting a couple PM's regarding PPT and the use of ammo bros to do the transfer. Reading other links on here regarding the price, it looks like they are charging 25 dros + 50 transfer fee. Thats crazy, aint it? I think turners is $35 out the door price.

What Im trying to do it see if there are any price advantages to PPT versus buying new from dealer. Im not so interested if the lower is brand spanking new or too specific on the brand. Just trying to save a buck.

That price is pretty standard for a ship-in transfer. Standard fee for a face-to-face PPT where seller and buyer both show up at the FFL is $35 - the price is set by the state.

Yes you will most likely save money on a used lower unless the savings is eat up by transfer fees.

She answered your questions, she doesn't read minds. It's your job to find out where they are, what time they open and close and if they have a store front. Don't blame your laziness to their Customer Service.

The different types of transfer and fees:

Add $25 DROS for Mr.Terminator no matter what

Direct purchase from retailer/dealer: sales tax
Private party transfer (PPT) from a non-dealer: illegal to charge more than $10 for transfer fee
Transferred from another dealer: transfer fee, anything over $70 for a long-gun is price gouging

If you're not happy with the prices that your local FFL charges, go see Mike at OCArmory in Laguna Hills.

Pistols- $45 + DROS* fees
Rifles- $55 + DROS* fees
Stripped Receivers- $35 + DROS* fees
NFA transfers- $100+DROS* fees
There is a $10 fee for each additional receiver, received from the same shipper.

OP, and just in case you didn't know and it applies, fed law now says you have to be 21yrs old to purchase a stripped or complete lower.

What about Independent Armament in San Fernando. You should be able to drive there within 30 minutes from the farthest reaches of Los Angeles (no traffic).

I drove up there for the first time a few weeks ago and met Dmitri and Mike - pretty cool guys and they have their own Independent Armament Lower. Check-out the link in the sentence preceding this one for photos.

There are some photos "in the white" (on the first page), and some finished lowers on the 3rd page. The lowers are very nicely machined and finished by JD Machine (in San Diego), but the IAC lowers have a couple enhancements:

(1) The magwell has a double bevel, which helps speed mag loading

(2) The Take-Down Pin holes are slightly countersunk, so it is easier to push the pins out without having to use a pen, punch, bullet tip, ect to push the TD pins in far enough to be able to grab the "head" and pull the TD pin.

AFAIK IAC also sells the regular JD Machine and I believe Mega lowers as well.

DISCLAIMER: I do not know Dmitri or Mike nor do I have any affiliation with their shop (I have no vested interest in people buying from IAC). Dmitri & Mike just seem like cool guys and they are a hell of a lot closer than Santa Ana and Costa Mesa (no offense to T & A and RifleGear!).
