EBR question: What makes a NAMED rifle?

So, long story short. I have a family ranch in Arizona where I have stored some of my toys from when I lived there. One of them is a Colt AR-15 National Match - ie a NAMED rifle.

Here is my question: Can I remove all the parts from the rifle, except the lower and assemble a CALI legal rifle from them? or is the Upper a no-go in california.

To some of you this may be a silly question. I realize that the lower is the firearm, carries the serial number and is the DROS'd part, but I would rather ask and look a little stupid than not ask and be stupid and on the news.....

    Thanks in advance.

Another good place to ask this would be the 2nd Amendment forum.

And it never hurts to ask quetsions

Unfortunately I just don't have an answer for you.

yes you would be good to go with replacing the receiver with a OLL one.

Just make sure you have it legally configured with a mag lock or have it be featureless.

yes, just make sure you follow the flowchart and build it up featureless, or go with a fixed-magazine build of <11-rounds.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Thanks for the quick responses. I am aware of the featureless / fixed mag requirements. The flowchart is great - this was the only legality question I had.

My understanding is that the LOWER is the banned item. the upper and all the springs parts etc are all ok to reuse on a cali legal lower

                This.

And that just goes to show you how idiotic our laws are...as if the horse pictured on your lower makes it so much more different than what I have on my lowers.
