In the early days of OLL/OLR availability (think early 2006) and the experimentation with getting AKs, much of what was available was either WASRs, crap (isn't that redundant?), getting one from a local custom-builder, or building your own from a Nodak Spud DCI NDS-3. Surplus foreign kits in unused condition were still plentiful and cheap, with the original barrel. That was also long before Solar Tactical or Radd Bullet "Buttons" for AKs.
Welllll..... I bought a couple of NDS-3 receivers at the time, and a couple of beautiful Romanian Surplus Kits that came with the barrel (receiver cut/not demilled) - from Copes.
My dilemma; I did not get around to building them myself as intended, and by the time I contemplated starting, I was finding much better prospects in the AK department. No longer was I contemplating what finish I should get; I was debating which caliber and/or how many Arsenal Inc. milled receiver OLR AKs I should acquire.... and OLR .308 ARs, OLR FN FALS, and OLR G3s, and etc., etc.
Focus shift - nothing more. But as time progressed, I also got busier with work, home, and other projects, and have found little to no time to set aside to build up the two kits I bought. And at this point, I don't really care; I built an AK once before to great success - and I just don't "need" to do that again.
Sooo.... does anyone know of anyone still in mode of offering to do QUALITY builds from someone elses' receiver and kit, within the Los Angeles area? I would like someone that does fit and finish as well, even "bettering" the surplus kit by refinishing the wood, metal parts (Duracoat or ??) and all.
Post referrals here or PM - either would be greatly appreciated.
