Is it worth changing the bcg?

I'm thinking about changing my bcg for a stainless/chrome or nitride one? Is it really worth it? Is it more for looks or does it last longer? Anybody have feed backs on both the nitride and stainless/chrome bcg?

I personally don't care about those fancy shmancy BCGs, as long as its Shot-peened and MPI tested I'm good.

All I know is that they cost a lot more than a quality BCG you can get from BCM.

I wouldn't change a perfectly good bolt until it dies. If it is a POS bolt or a broken bolt, then I'd change it. The chrome ones do seem easier to clean and a bit more "slick" but not enough to make much of a difference.

I'd just stick with a standard bolt carrier from a reputable manufacturer. All those slick surface finishes tend to stay cleaner, but also don't hold as much lubricant on the surface as the standard carriers. In the long term, you may end up wearing away the inside of your receiver and buffer tube if all the reciprocating parts aren't lined up perfectly. Beware also of the titanium coated carriers, from what I have read, they not only eat up the receiver, but are hard enough that they chew up the hammer as well.

absolutely!, get a titanium firing pin too, cause then your gun will shoot sub-moa without even aiming

If you can round up a Colt carrier that has been hard Chromed, now that would
be cool. They are easier to clean, FWIW.

If it aint broke, dont fix it or so they say..

If you already have a good quality BCG, thats been shoot peened, HPI, and MPI tested, then you should be good.

I have 2 Fail Zero BCGs and have over 1000 rds of wolf ammo through the first rifle I fitted with this "new" magically coated by Aliens upgrade.
MY results have been very good. No noticeable wear to receiver contact points nor have I noticed any stoppages due to build up of carbon/powder or crap.
Cleanup is also very easy. No lube on BCG at all.
I own this stuff and I am always looking to upgrade where it counts.
I have never broken a regular OEM BCG or extractor, bolt charging handle etc..
Basically you will find many nay sayers that will not recommend anything new and dismiss it as a gimmick. I used to be one of those guys.
Is it worth it? It was for me. I still use the OEM stuff for my other AR's that don't see as much abuse and they run reliable and I have had no issues.
But, there is room for improvement if you look and have some money to spend.

That only works if you have a gas piston upper
