    AK stock swap

So I was DROSing another AR lower with my FFL and he says I should do something else too because he charges the same. I was already thinking of getting an AK someday so I shopped around online, but the ones I wanted were out of stock. I settled for the underfolder style (pinned for CA) with black furniture instead of the regular stock in all black. I thought it would be easy to switch the stock out later. I recently bought an AK stock and even a stock adapter that lets you use AR stocks in case one or the other wouldn't fit. I checked out the back of the AK and I don't see how this is doable, but that could be because I'm unfamiliar with it. I have built a few ARs, but this is a totally different beast so I think I'll need a gunsmith to machine this project.

Any estimates on how long this would take a gunsmith to do? I'm assuming about 60/hr for the work. At that rate it may not be worth it since these new parts were cheap. I think I only paid about $440 for the rifle. Should I throw in the towel or have it done?

Not worth the trouble. The rear trunnion has to be removed, the holes welded up and new ones drilled for the new fixed stock rear trunnion. Did you get a Yugo, Polish, or Romanian underfolder?

You paid around $440 for a Yugo?! Score! Congrats.
A 1.5mm Yugo UF is a great first AK.
