So I was DROSing another AR lower with my FFL and he says I should do something else too because he charges the same. I was already thinking of getting an AK someday so I shopped around online, but the ones I wanted were out of stock. I settled for the underfolder style (pinned for CA) with black furniture instead of the regular stock in all black. I thought it would be easy to switch the stock out later. I recently bought an AK stock and even a stock adapter that lets you use AR stocks in case one or the other wouldn't fit. I checked out the back of the AK and I don't see how this is doable, but that could be because I'm unfamiliar with it. I have built a few ARs, but this is a totally different beast so I think I'll need a gunsmith to machine this project.
Any estimates on how long this would take a gunsmith to do? I'm assuming about 60/hr for the work. At that rate it may not be worth it since these new parts were cheap. I think I only paid about $440 for the rifle. Should I throw in the towel or have it done?
