    Assault Weapons/ Silencers

I have posted a few times regarding assault weapons and silencers in the past.

It has been quiet regarding those firearms for a while. But, recently, I have been working several of those cases at my office again. Like I have stated before, I am certain and hope that the Calguns members are in compliance with the law. I have worked on some assault weapon cases recently. These are:

    1. Category 1 assault weapons that were not registered.
    2. OLL's with no magazine lock devices.

I don't know if the owners were ignorant about the law, or they broke the law intentionally. I have to report the facts that they are indeed assault weapons.

I also had 2 silencer cases.

    1. The firearms have muzzle attachments that actually reduce the report of the gun fire. The one I worked on today reduced the sound about 1/2 of what it sounds without the device. It is a very crud home made device, but nevertheless, it reduced the sound.

I think some people attach a device to make it look cool, however, per the definition of the penal code and AFT guide line, if it reduces the report of the gun fire, it is a silencer (sound suppressor).

Another reminder: If you have a short barrels and attach a break or flash suppressor, make sure it is permanently attached.

Some people didn't like my post in the past saying I am preaching to a choir, but I think occasional reminder is not too bad.

Again, if I offended anyone with my post, becasue you always follow the law, please accept my apology.

Can you expand on the details of the cases? What were the circumstances?

#3 Some Bubba made a home-built silencer and got nicked? Probably not your smartest client this year.
#4 Pinned to meet 16" requirement? Well, yeah. I'd guess most folks who build a SBR know that.

No offense taken. Lawyers are a neccessary evil...

Reminders keep us vigilant. Especially with the hobby growing and such an increase in gun purchases over the past couple years these reminders are important.

any improvised, homemade or real "silencers" even permanently attached to SBRs could give you trouble. just stay away from possible flags.
flash hiders or compensator could add to be legally 16" or over, regarded they are permanently attached - is a different story.

Hey topgun7, what is your opinion on the Magpul Angled Fore Grip on a center fire rifle with detachable magazines? Would you classify it as a forward pistol grip? Please post or pm me...Thanks!

The case is an active case, so I cannot say too much about it as of now. When the cases are adjudicated, I can discuss further.

Check out my "illegal stuff I heard in a gun store" thread.

People are CONSTANTLY defeating their magazine locks in their OLL's and traveling around with them to and from ranges and gun stores. I see it all the time.

I would say it's probably the primary reason most people buy Raddlocks and Prince50's.

I also see 14.5" barrels without permanently pinned hiders fairly regularly (though not that often), but I would actually say 90% of the time it's due to ignorance. I try to educate as often as I can.
                            Please read the Calguns Wiki
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

What is the level of "pinned" that it needs to be on breaks? Welded or some loctite? As long as you require a tool to remove it?
