Took out some new shooters today (PICS)

went to angeles, had a great time, weather was amazing

one of the bros in my fraternity got a rifle as a gift from his little bro (Mosin) during our initiation banquet, so he was more than excited to finally shoot it today. always fun to introduce more people to the sport.

we had a good amount of OLL rifles, garand, k31, enfield, and a few 22lrs plus the mosin.

firing his gift for the first time

one of my friend's first time shooting a gun ever, picks up the mosin, hits the 200 yard steel standing shot. none of us could hit it and this dude nails it on the first shot.

Several days later the bolt was rusted shut but I guess the fouling wasnt TOO bad.

I've taken new shooters out, after the second time they want to go again, then I hit them with, sure, only this time, you spring for your own ammo and help me clean the guns, I'll show you how. Most of the time, they find a different hobby, lol.

Great pictures! So which rifles do the newbies like the best?

consensus of the day seems to say ARs

very user-friendly rifle, most of the new people were able to hit the 200 yard steel after the first few shots

of course, recoil junkies loved the k31 and mosin. one of the girls fired one shot of the mosin and didn't want any more, and it took a lot of egging on to get her to try it.

i loved the garand though, for the amount of power coming out the barrel it has very mild smooth recoil. and it's balance is superb, it weighs close to 10lbs but the weight is distributed well.

enfield was pretty great too, what stood out most to me was it's sights. it's the only milsurp other than the 1903 and garand that i've shot that can be fine adjusted for specific ammo loads (since it uses more of a micrometer sight). makes me want to get one and try some long range shooting with the aperture sights on it.

btw, i'm the guy in the blue in the pics and i was teaching them how to shoot prone at long range targets w/ iron sights
