    My first A/R build - Actually, my first A/R - W/PICS!!!!

Thanks to the folks here who offered good advice, particularly on the Mega, billet lower.

I own and shoot an M1A Scout, but wanted my first "black rifle" to see what all the fuss was about. Did my research and here's what I wound up with!!!!

Got the stripped lower and parts kit from Cold War Shooters in Highland and most of the rest online, from Western Sport out of Utah. Rifle Gear in Costa Mesa hooked me up with the mags. Only $20 for a pinned Magpul 20 rounder. Excellent deal.

Took it out shooting today. 200 rounds of Ammos Bros., 55 grain reloads went through flawlessly!!! Rifle is very accurate and a complete blast to shoot!!! I think I have a new favorite in the stable.

    Hope you like!!!!!!!

    Regards,

    John

That I need to learn more about optics before I buy anything.

During the build, I got the inexpensive Magpul backup sights as I intend to run a scope on it. It was a pleasant surprise today when they shot pretty well out to 200 yards. I was smacking a small steel plate about 8 out of 10 times.

I was thinking of getting a Millet, tactical scope, but have been thinking of the Leupold made for the A/R, then second guessing myself yet again.

Plenty of time to make up my mind as the wife unit has me on a budget. I only get to spend my monthly "allowance" on toys, so it'll be 2-3 months before I have enough saved up to buy a good scope.

          Regards,

          John

Thanks. I wrestled with what upper to get. Finally wound up with a PWS and I'm very happy with it.

Bonus is it mates up with the lower as if they were forged from the same casting. Even the color match is just about perfect.

Complete dumb luck as I just bought what I thought would work well for my needs.

              Regards,

              John

Very nice build. I built mine late last year. CMMG lower and 20" DelTon flat top Rifle kit. Stock A2 forearm and buttstock with a removable rear sight. For now, I added a Brunton 3.5 X 10-50mm inexpensive scope which performs well for me out to 300 yds.=credible 5" groups.
                I buy from RiflGear also.

Have you seen the new, Nikon scopes made for A/R's? There's a cool YouTube video/advertisement for them. Pretty slick and optimized for a 55 grain bullet. Sorta idiot proof in that you turn the dial to 100 to shoot 100 yards, 200 for 200 yards, etc......

I may look into it as it is reasonably priced.

That's funny. I had to sit and noodle to figure out what FDE meant. LOL!!!!!

I don't have any A/R parts lying around, so it just seemed natural to buy everything one color.

At first I bought the Magpul hand grip, but REALLY liked the Ergo grip when I tried it at a local gun store so I picked it up. It doesn't match 100%, but I don't really care. The forward grip/bipod doesn't match either, but function over form.

                            Regards,
