Any of you guys (and gals) pay for a legit rifle instruction course? If yes, which one, and how was the experience -- would you recommend it to a NOOB? To an experienced shooter? Thanks in advance.

I haven't even been there, but I'm already telling people to go to Front Sight.
Piazza is said to be a bit on the radical side, but everyone who has been here talking about FS has nothing but good things to say about the training facility and the way the instruction is carried out, that's just what I've heard, and I will be going there for my first Rifle course.
Most here will recommend the 4 day Rifle course, or you could go for the 2 day course.
There are newby course certificates that members sell here for a lot less than the face cost.

Maybe you can find whatever is local or is closest to you and find out if there are any programs or classes offered there. Recently I was referred to Appleseed. I havent taken the course but I'm going to do it when it comes to my local range. $70 for 2 days. Not too bad.

Blackwater's US training center in San Diego seems freakin' amazing. Never been, but talked to Bill Go, a retired USMC colonel who runs the joint. He seems super top notch. Some people on Calguns have been there and loved it.Comment

+1
Bill Go at USTC teaches no nonsense courses and provides lots of personal attention to each student. I highly recommend his tactical carbine courses. In addition, he teaches a great tactical pistol course. I know that he works with students to design custom courses to fit their specific needs. Bill regularly trains LEO, SEALs, etc. When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. -- Thomas JeffersonComment

Any one from Grey Group Training should be gtg. Look for VAdinger's posts in the training section on upcoming classes. I have taken a class with Larry Vickers before and it was top notch. Larry is now associated with Grey Group so you can pm VAdinger to see when he will be back down here again.
To be more clear to the op about the experience it was a really good class for someone who's done a lot of shooting but not had formal training. Skill levels were from moderate (me) to people who had taken several VERY advanced classes from Larry and everything in between. There was a guy making hits on a 12x12 steel at 200yrds with a 7.62 krink!! I would not recommend it to a noob though, not having any formal training is one thing, second time ever touching a gun is another. So I say take a vickers class. Well worth the money.Last edited by drummerdude1188; 03-19-2010, 7:07 PM.Comment

If you want to learn to shoot a black rifle then www.taranbutler.com is the best in the area. After he teaches you to get the most out of your gun then take some tactical classes.I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

Wanted to know what people thought of the "big guns" schools like GUnsite and Thunder Ranch, if they had sprung for a gun vacation/training week.Comment
