Yea, saw one yesterday on the rack at Turner's West Covina. Priced I believe was $899. I don't know if that's decent!

Anyone know a good source of 45-70 brass? I'm interested on making a really slow moving Hollow point round for ranch defense or a soft shooting coyote round for the ranch "I know this is no coyote gun but when I'm out on the property this is most likely what will be with me 75% of the time and I do catch stragglers pretty often" . I'll make sure to post pics as soon as I pick it up!

I've got the 1895SBL. I fell in love with it at first sight and bought it purely on impulse (I wasn't even looking for a lever gun!). It's become one of my favorite guns. With the 325 grain Hornady LeveRevolution rounds, it's a real thumper!

I own 2 1895's one XLR stainless the other original blued. I have to say the 300 grain loaded to mid range shoot the best and dont hurt. I shot 2 of the 500 grain and will never shoot the other 48 that are in the box. I hunt piggies with the 405 grain TSX bullets they are wicked.

Starline.com or gunbroker if they're backordered and you don't want to wait.

Haha I have some buffalo bore 500 grainers I have heard many people say after shooting the 460's or 500's they wont shoot em again. I'm wondering what would be better for light recoiling round that does damage on yotes and 2 legged critters for patrolling out on the property. A heavier bullet with a light charge or a lighter bullet with a light charge? Anyone got any good info on reloading for the 45-70? I have never used the plugs that are in some rounds. I'm assuming they are for taking up some space when going with a lower powder load?

I use 2400 powder and 300 Grain projectiles, (Lymans 48th edition reloading) they will do whatever you need them to do up to elephant!

I have not got mine yet I pick it up on the 2nd but let me tell you after handling it before I picked it up man it's a AWESOME handling gun and should make a GREAT pig gun. It's exactly what I'm getting it for. A Bear and pig gun and the occasional brush hunt for deer.

Dont be scared of the 500gr Buffalo Bores, granted I'm a big guy, but I used to shoot the Corbon 460's when I would run out of the 405's all day long... on jack rabbits and ground hogs... messy , and after a few rounds the recoild brings on a euphoric state, kinda like drinking nasty booze, after the first few shots the rest dont taste as bad. I went through one box 2 years ago, just because they were staring at me, yes it hurts ( pocket book and shoulder ), but the sound of 500 grains hitting something, anything, is worth it.

Can't wait for the first time you try it, you will love it as much as I did.

Oh I'm gunna shoot em I'm not scared just heard the stories of the monsters I figure I'll probably shoot a couple and save the rest though because they are so darn expensive! I wanna develop a nice general purpose load for the rifle. Would be cool to get some type of hollow point moving at a decent speed with minimal recoil for those close range straggler yote encounters.

I can't wait to get one also mostly for taking out to the dessert and shooting out to 1000 yards or so.

Not shooting so much as lobbing at that range...

my father in laws 45-70 marlin is super fun to shoot. Its dead accurate and the loads he had were relatively light

I would just look around and do some research and find what will work for you

I agree. I was doing it with my Glock 21 (not 1000 yards but along ways), which obviously does not have any sights for that distance. I could actually hit a poster that we had set out fairly reliably. Probably went through 250 rounds doing it. I also remember making some money from some of our friends that came up on the second day, as they didn't think I could hit the poster.
