    Looking for that special rifle...

    Hi all,

Among the things I'm considering getting is a good semi-automatic rifle. The primary use of this rifle would be for shooting at the range for fun. I really like the idea of modular designs found in AR type rifles. My objective is to have something that isn't to expensive to own (cost of ammo comes to mind) and preferably not to much to buy. I'd like to get something which is capable of very good accuracy out to the 300-500 yard range.

What are your thoughts to the types of rifles I should be looking at?

As far as ARs go, I really like something in this kind of configuration:

Can I still fit a scope or red dot sight onto this model? Is the price about right for something like this?

So, are you looking for an AR?

If not, maybe look at a Saiga in 7.62 or 5.45? Start with the basic rifle and then modify it the way you like.

an AR sounds about right...you can upgrade/replace parts as your shooting styles change.

      multiple uppers, in different calibers...etc.

Initial cost will be somewhere starting at about $700- $2,000.

I must admit...I am hooked on old Battle Rifles. I bought my Garand a month ago and just love it(very expensive to feed) I also love my M1A I bought new about 5 years ago. I own a couple of BB equipped AR rifles and they are fun too, but hearing the ping on the iron targets at 400 yards using a peep sight is just to cool.

My new toy is on the way(IBM M1 Carbine) I cant wait...I hear they make computers in there spare time.
