    AR Barrel heat

I have searched and found a few opinions on ar15.com, but I was wondering this: I am trying to decide between an M4 profile heavy (heavy under the handguards), or a lightweight M4 profile barrel.

I've heard a lot of people say that if you're blasting 30 rounds as fast as you can your groups will open up and start depleting the barrel's strength unless you have a heavy. Anybody have experience with this?

The heavy barrels are only used on the M4A1 which is the full auto variant.
The military feels that the regular profile is sufficient for the soldiers who can only fire semi-auto and 3 round bursts.

So, use the heavy barrel if you have a machine gun and the light barrel if you don't.
None of the M4 profile barrels with 5.56 chambers are going to be so accurate that the difference in profile will matter.

If you're ripping through 30 rounders as fast as you can pull the trigger, I doubt group size will be an issue. That's called suppressive fire.

THANK you fellas, since I'm not building a machine gun I'll make this baby lightweight. It'll be a coyote rifle primarily anyways, so when I go out hunting I may not even have to worry about cleaning it from shooting!
Most of what I got on the other forums is arguments that sound like fights between ford and chevy owners. Then again, I drive a Dodge so it don't matter!
As for group size, I know bump firing and mag dumping is inaccurate, I just heard folks saying their lightweight barrels warped and/or ruined the rifling of the barrel. Not a concern for this rifle!

Go search for the Colt video that shows why they're switching. They run a mg through a bunch of mags until the gun malfs.

It's pretty clear to me either will handle just fine unless you're trying to kill the rifle. I wish the m4 were lighter past the handguards and slightly heavier under.
