CMMG is a great bang for your buck, Rock River also very good.

Most people going 20" these days are shooting either for longer range ballistic capabilities or simply trying to clone an M16A2 or A4. a thinner barrel profile will begin to produce larger groups earlier as the barrel heats up faster.
For my use, a 20" should be heavy barreled and flat top for precision. It allows optics to be mounted closer to the barrel and also keeps your groups from opening up. Do you plan to carry your rifle much? If you do I think a 16" would be preferred.

Thanks for the responses... this isn't for me. Its for my store. We carry a good assortment of 16", 14.5" and 14.7" uppers but have gotten enough requests for 20" uppers that I'm going to stock some and was wondering what most people get as I personaly have never been into the 20" builds.

right now, i'd have to say...for 20" gov profile bbl. but that's just a guess.

i'm trying to build a 20" right now. i wanted the CMMG 20" medcon bbl profile...but i decided towards a 20" BCM gov bbl profile for now...just trying to put in my order

I clicked the wrong one! I wanted to say the HBAR flattop.

I love my Armalite 20" A4 HBAR flat top. I'm running optics and it seems real accurate.

I prefer the "compromise" of the 18" length w/ heavy barrel and collapsable stock. I find the weight and accuracy to be balanced nicely compared to a 20" and it still is short enough [overall] to be a compact package, compared to a 16"
