    Machine your own Flash Suppressor?

    Hey guys,

After searching 17 pages of search results for "flash hider", I still can't find any info on this. I'm looking for a solution for my AR. It's a fixed-mag build, so flash suppressor is good to go.

I like the idea behind the Noveske Flaming Pig, because the noise and flash are directed away from me. However, I'm not about to pay $125 for one. I'm sure they're great.

So, I'm thinking I should break out the lathe and get a piece of bar stock and go to town. Hollow the stock out, and thread a hole in one end. Boom. Done.

How would I be doing from a legal standpoint? I figure that since fake cans are legal, and the Noveske is legal, mine would be legal as well.

Of course logic has never stood in the way of California law, so I thought I'd consult the board.

    What say you?

I'd be very careful with that - I think if it effects the DB level of the shot at all, you could be on legal shaky ground (as possibly manufacturing a "suppressing device".) Not sure what kind of approval process manufacturers need to go through, but I'm guessing there is some sort of regulatory approval.

BUT I'm not sure about any of that - just suggesting you research it a bit more... and maybe someone will be along shortly with actual, real information!

I don't think ATF will deem it illegal, as you are not building a silencer?

^ the Pig does not affect dB level, but it does change the direction, so the shooter hears less but whatever is in front hears more
