BLM land in Monterey or Santa Cruz county?

Scotts Valley Sportsmen's Club has about the fewest restrictions in Santa Cruz county. No 1-second rule BS, you can shoot bottles/ cans/ golf/tennis balls etc so long as you clean up after yourself, and they have a 4 lane 25-100 yd. range, and a 10 lane (I think) pistol/ rimfire range. And an airgun range for kids. Plus, since its private, and open every day, sometimes there aren't any people there, and there are never any idiots you might see at other ranges elsewhere. Its a neat spot, and relatively inexpensive to join.

Looks like we would need a member to accomodate us as a guest to get our foot in the door. Anyone planning on going this weekend?

Williams Hill, AWESOME BLM spot. You can access this BLM land from either 101 just off the San Ardo exit, you will take a dirt road 10 miles back and you are there. OR, you can access this area from Lockwood not far from Fort Hunter Liggett.

Is williams hills the desolate maze with a big open area covered in shotgun shells from clay shooting? I dont remember.. It has radio towers i think

Panoche might still be closed for construction. Last time i was there was in april and last month someone was asking about panoche being open and i think it is not.


Los altos is a bunch of range nazi's for the exact things the one guys said. I prefer sunnyvale way more for a range in the peninsula area. Cheaper too

Silly question but, any gates or signs, do you know if they close it during the summer months like Panoche? When you say 10 miles on the dirt road, how long does it take when you get on the dirt to get to a spot?

Does not close during the summer. The way I usually go is from the 101 (S) from King City, take the San Ardo exit and turn right (not left going to San Ardo) follow that road 1/4 mile and it will veer right follow another mile and take your first possible left turn. It's a dirt road and I'm not sure of the name. Follow that dirt road about 10 miles (could be less, it takes about 10 minutes) back and you will reach the BOTTOM of Williams Hill, there will be a Williams Hill sign. You can continue up the hill and find your shooting spots.

I was looking for an alternative to LAR&G. It's a shame that they got so bad with such a good set up.

Any other outdoor ranges in the bay area other then Coyote Point?

I just read somewhe that panoche hills is closed until oct. 16th which is only a few days away . If anyone else can confirm this it would be cool to get a meet together.
