As someone with an intimate familarity with lawsuits when it comes to my personal life I don't really give a hoot who is suing whom for what. All I really care about is who makes the best product. So with that said, lets hear some more recommendations.

      I'd still say the VZ.
Established and proven platform versus the XCR, a relatively new gun. As shown with the M96, who knows if they'll cut and run from the XCR as well.

I'm less concerned with the business rep of the company than the rep of the product. This isn't to say its a non factor, but its further down on the list than whether the rifle is good or not.

Not at all. Whether the owner is a douchebag doesn't affect whether the rifle does 2" groups at 100 yds or whether it cycles reliably. Yeah there is the customer support issue, but I look at this kind of the same way I do HK. Sure their CS may suck, but since I never have to use it it really doesn't matter.

I wouldn't touch a sig with a 10 foot pole. The company CS is in the crapper, all of their new models are full of problems, and the 556 has a major major design flaw from the get go.

                    No thanks.

What problems outside of the side folder issue (which we can't get in CA anyway), I'm not aware of any problems. I mean, if you mean the FTF issues, this was because a few officers used grease instead of oil and ofcourse there is the complaints of disassemble, how people complained about how it is not as easy as an AR15. I really need to know the issues. I have a 556.

Also keep in mind, the 556 was designed around the piston system where ARs were upgrade from a gas system to a piston system

I'd go with the XCR 100%. I just picked up a used one for $1200.
AR ergos with AK reliability and many improved features: 3 huge lugs on the bolt instead of 8 small ones, left side non reciprocating charging handle, adjustable gas system, eats all types of ammo no problems, folding/adjustable stock, mono top rail, free floated barrel, takes AR mags and pistol grips, extremely reliable.

As far as the lawsuit goes: who wouldn't want to protect their patent? It was applied for in 2003 and was just approved a few months ago, hence the timing of the lawsuit.

Get the Vz. It's much cheaper than the XCR.

It seems, you like the VZ price and I'm guessing the XCR precision/piston. I'd go right in the middle and build a nice quality AR carbine. Same basic layout as an XCR, and unless you are shooting a lot and I mean a lot in between quick swab and lubes, you won't notice much more reliability in the XCR. I've never had a failure in my AR that wasn't mag, ammo, or lack of maintenance related.
