Problem with trigger guard pin.

So ever since I installed my LPK this roll pin never went in properly. Then while doing some research I read that DPMS LPK's have a tendency to be out of spec and if it dint want to go in then dont force it...well its stuck half way in . Im using a punch pin to punch it out but wont budge , even hammerd the punch pin and still nothing, I really dont want to use alot of pressure and be another statistic of broken trigger guard ear's by DPMS LPK'.

How should I take this out ? I was contemplating using a blow torch , heating it up , then using the punch pin to take it out ? or vice grips after its heated up ? Much appreciated, thanks.

I use a plier wrapped in electrical tape to wiggle it out

I would agree with Noobert. Use pliers to slowly twist it out. If you just pull, you are likely to break the ear.

you can break it with the pliers as well... What I have done in this situation and I hope I can explain it via type ok...

I use a aluminum block and I make the height is right to insure it can support the whole ear and the pin is in the hole I drilled a little larger than the pin and turn it over and put the punch through the guard and drive the already sticking pin back out the bottom (the way you are trying to drive it in..) BUT SUPPORT the ear on the bottom cuz they will break very easy. but if the height is right with your block the ear can go nowhere with you pushing on it.

Maybe you can try a smaller roll pin through the other side and punch it out?

Ive always wondered why the hell is the trigger guard roll pin the hardest thing to install? Ive installed 3 lowers and I had that problem every time. Its probably the only part to install that really has no important use besides blocking the trigger.

Yesterday I installed a daniel defense lpk to my factory seconds noveske lower and spent about 30 minutes just hammering the roll pin down. Is there any lpk brands (trigger guard pin specifically) that is doesnt require too much hammering to install?

My DPMS pin was bent out of the package, but since i was installing it into my homebuild lower w/o color or anodizing, i just dipped a 1/8 rod in JB weld and ground down the pin until flush. After painting, it looked like the trigger guard and the lower was one unit

What Seesm said. Drill a hole in an aluminum block or even a piece of oak should work. Take the hand grip off an then put the pin in the hold an punch from the other side of the lower. that way you are supporting the ear an it should pop out. Put some WD40 or other light lube inside the hole on the opposite side of where the pin is sticking out.

Next time you goto install the pin put some light grease on the end of the pin then push it through with channel locks or large vise grips make sure the vise grips are out enough not to lock onto the ears when the pin is in. I never use a hammer on my lowers.

I lubed the **** out of it , and used the punch pin and hammer and got it, i was hammering it way to hard for my confort level but it came out .

Now i gotta go head over to ammo bros to get a new pin. You guys think I should just get vice grips and press them in ? Or hammer it in ?

I've always pressed them in with Channel Locks wrapped in electrical tape. Make sure you lube the ish out of it. I mean, really.

But then again, others will surely note they've had good luck with hammering it in.

Got it in, used channel locks. It was a real PITA and though i was gonna break the ears with each cm it went in LOL.

one thing I have found about the DPMS trigger guards is that the hole for the rol pin is to smal in the trigger guard... I have had to drill out the hole in all my DPMS trigger guards....

Make sure you support it like I said and you will NOT break a ear...
