Adding threads to a Saiga?

Looking to pick up a 16" Saiga in 7.62x39 in the next month or so. I want to keep it as a "sporter" but I want to add a brake to the barrel. I plan to play the Parts game as well and add a bullet guide for my pre-ban AK mags.

So what is the process for adding a standard threaded end to it?

First find out if it has threads already underneath. Some got into the country with threaded barrels underneath the front sight/muzzle shroud. If it doesn't, you can go the bolt on route or have the muzzle threaded.

The only way to check is to cut off the end of the shroud carefully. If you have a standard size AK muzzle, a 14x1 threading die will work fine. This only appears to be possible on recently imported models with the dimples.

The front sight and barrel shroud are one unit. Carefully cut along the shroud up to the base of the front sight. Then cut around the shroud at the base of the sight. Then peel away.

Or you can loose the Saiga front sight alltogether, order a threaded front sight block and press that on. That might be easier than threading the barel yourself. The DPS bolt on brake has had problems with retention, quite a few have been shot off or have vibrated loose.

Zactly, thats what I would do, I might even go that route with my other Saiga conversion if I don't have to sell it.
