    Long range scope question

I just bought a bushnell 4200 8x32 elite and in the specs it says " 20 inches of ajustment at 100 yards". I have it on my cz 308 wich will drop around 50" at thousand yards. Does that mean that if scope is zeroed in at 100 I can only adjust for 20" of bullit drop ? which puts me out at around 400 I think. Or can I zero it at 500 and get out to a 1000. I noticed after the fact the tactical 4200 has 50 " of ajustment at a 100. I have shot this cz kevlar varmint with a cheap bsa steath tactical out to 500 yards before with my own reloads but wanted a better scope to go longer range out to a thousand.

you should have 10 times the adj. at a thousand that you would have at 100 yds. 20" at 100 = 200" at 1000.

1k yards? I thought I had a rich fantasy life!

          With a 308 you'll need around 35 - 38 MOA from a 100 yard zero for 1000 yards - if your scope only has 20 MOA you'll need a 20 MOA rail

There is a sticky here that you should check out. Stop thinking in inches. Your drop will be
much more than 50" at 1k. Of you meant 50 minutes I'm gonna guess that load won't work out so well.

A friend of mine has the same rifle but with a super sniper fixed power. He did very well at 1k. Have fun!

              It's an 8-32X variable

I think he means a variable scope from 8x to 32x. The bushnell 4200 doesn't even come in a fixed 8 power

Dude, your drop is going to be more like 350-400 inches at 1000 yards. You are either going to need a scope with more MOA adjustment or a sloped rail under the scope.

that explains the lack of adjustment travel - the higher the power the less you get, especially in a 1" tube.

If you want to shoot to 1k, and maintain and 100-200 yard zero, you're going to need a new scope.

I dont care about a 100 yard zero . I dont hunt with this gun just shoot steel or paper. My question is is this scope capable of 1000 yards if not I will put it on my cz 223 kelvar varmint. thanks

Sure its capable. You'll need to get an appropriate sloped base. Depending on your load, 20 MOA won't be enough.

Rks proublem with the cz 550 is they have a 19mm dove tail mount. I have a cz 19mm x weaver rail on it wich is only made by cz and doesnt have slope. Would even 50" of adjustment like on the bushnell tactical models get me close? I can see this scope going on the 223

One improvement you can do that will provide additional angle is to shim the front of the scope. I've seen it done with an old cartridge pounded out flat. Not the most elegant solution but it will add to your ability to go up MOA.
