    Your target setup

What all do you guys use to hold up a target for rifle shooting? I am going to acquire my new rifle soon and will need to be able to get a setup for long range shooting. I have heard of people making their own target stand. Post a picture and give me ideas here. Anything commercially available that isn't junk?

I came up with a low cost steel stand that we use for our long range matches.
It's basically two t-posts pounded into the ground.
Atop each post is a 6" long piece of 1.5" pipe that has a 3/4" hole cross drilled in it.
Between these two pieces of pipe spans a piece of 1/2" rebar.
We hang plates from the rebar with chain.

Everything is available at home depot with the only fabrication being to cut the pipe pieces and drill the holes.
Our target plates get chain links welded to the backside so we can hang them.

just make sure you have some stakes or at least rocks to hold a targetlike that down when the wind starts blowing. nothing like posting a wooden frame or PVC target out to 200 yards and walking back just in time to turn around and see it topple over..... I am sure we have all been there

              On the pvc note, easy to make and strong. I made two of these;

pvc base in a square, with a T fitting with an open side facing up. insert 1x1 wood and staple a piece of carboard to thoose attach targets. small, very light weight, and easy to take down.

Just picked up 3 steel welded bases at the Ventura gun show last weekend. Designed to hold 1Xs an then just tack cardboard between to hold the targets. Messing around with the shotgun can take out a leg so in 3 seconds you can put in a new one an you are off. Will show picks later. Only 20 bucks each an long lasting.

I used to use the for rent signs but they don't hold up to "new" shooters all that well.

I went the PVC route using the template at http://accurateshooter.wordpress.com...c-target-stand. Cheap and easy.

                          Stuff from Home Depot.

Most of the time, I use a PVC frame. Don't have the specs on me, but basically it's 6' tall with the pieces cut into 3' sections or so. 3' across as well and the bases. Makes it logistically easy to replace parts on the go and you don't really have to figure what goes where (we have a box of said size sitting there as spares. The bases are filled and capped off with sand or dirt for weight. keyrings on the top bar for the targets or cardboard to clip on to. Easy.

Hope that made sense. Really cheap to make. Working on making it out of steel though for longevity.

                          WTB used AK MFER.

i built a couple out of 2" pvc and 2" furring strips at a total cost of +/- $50.

the base is all pvc and the furring strips were cut and affixed via fasteners to make a frame. the frame was designed to accept a 22"x28" piece of chipboard i buy at the local art store for @ $1.25ea. the chipboard serves as the backing for targets.

the overall design was to emphasis maximum portability. the entire thing is easy to take down and set up (takes a few minutes) and both units fit nicely in a duffel for easy transport.
