None of my other rifles jam as badly as Remingtons so I doubt it is me.

I was in the EXACT same boat. wanted a bolt .308 to shoot 100-600 and hit the occasional 1000. read for WEEKS, great reviews... Went for the 10 BASk (about $1700). (NOTE: haven't shot it yet as i'm still waiting on optics)
Very nice... liked the features, rail and stock AND wanted mag fed which this is... IT's a bit heavy but im not looking to haul into the woods. Wanted a good sniper and I'm very pleased so far. (still have to shoot it)
I'm going with a NF optic, just trying to decide on 3.5-15 of 5.5-20. Leaning toward the latter...

I think the Savage Accutrigger is over rated. It's fine, but I don't think it is as good as a properly set Remington 700. I have more 700s and 40X centerfires than Savages, but the two I have (12BVSS in 300 WSM & a older heavy barreled single shot 112 in 25.06) are great shooters. At the risk of being howled at, I'd go with the Ruger 77V in either 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor if you're going to be staying in an "out of the box" mode. The trigger is great, the stock is fine off the bench and with respect to the Creedmoor I think it's a better long range round than the 308.

770's and 710's are crap, Like someone else said not many other people have this problem but I have seen more than 5 extractors break on heavy barreled savage rifles. There is no argument the remington 700 is probably the best selling bolt action rifle on the market and best quality for the price with good after market and is what A LOT of custom actions are based off. To me it's the best factory action around besides a pre 64 mod 70.

This link provides FANTASTIC information on long-range shooting.

The optics section as it relates to bullet-drop and trajectory should be mandatory reading for anyone wanting to shoot over 100yds.......

Man, I'm heading to paypal to make another donation. You should, too.

I have always been one to trust the wise.

Yep that is what I read when I first got started in Long Range shooting. It still holds true and I enjoy reading it from time to time just for the heck of it. Zak Smith has some VERY good articles about Long Range shooting. People should really do a lot more reading than asking, I read first then asked the couple questions I had left but to be honest most of it comes with the experience of getting out there and shooting. Like I said over on snipershide.com There is a whole LR shooting sticky page and it has some GREAT info.

thank you everyone for your posts its really helped alot. I have read that article and many other about long range shooting and rifle reviews. I just like to do alot of research and question asking before i spend a few thousand dollars on a rifle. I think that im gonna go with a remington 700 though later down the road.

Expect to spend as much on the glass as the rifle. But the Savage is a great rifle out the box. However, if you plan on upgrading parts, the Remington has bigger aftermarket support.

the only thing that savage 10fp has over a Rem 700 SPS Varmit/tactical. is the accutrigger which is only meh better than the xmark trigger after you tinker with it.

i have shot both a savage 10fp and a rem 700 SPS Varmit, bone stock with similar optics. and the Remington was far nicer. which is why i bought the SPS varmit.

i am now the proud owner of both remington and savage bolt actions. i have a 700vtr in 22.250, 600mohawk in 308, sav10 (i think its an fp, the old heavy barreled tactical) and the 93r17(which doesnt really count, save the accutrigger experience.) they are both great manufacturers. they are all sub-moa with budget optics(except the 600, because it has iron sights and i suck) and were all well worth the price of admission. im used to wringing what little performance can be found, out of tight triggers, so i havent touched any of my triggers. i really think it is a matter of ford v. chevy, for the most part. but i dont shoot for 1/4moa at 1k+ yards, i just like all the pretty little holes to touch, and have a good time. i think youll be happy, either way. or, buy both! this is america, is it not?

Itll cost you more to get a Remington to shoot like a Savage does right out of the box.

If you do go the Remington route, just start right and buy a custom, you will end up swapping all the factory parts out anyways.
