    saiga in 5.45 or .223?

Since my dad already has an SKS I thought another 7.62x39 would be a extraneous purchase. I have seen the .223 Saiga for sale $30-$40 less.... plus steel case russian .223 is getting cheaper too but 5.45x39 surp is even cheaper.... input please. Anyone have either? or perhaps both? Do they make surefire high caps for both that I may use when I'm out at my buddies ranch in AZ?

I went with the 5.45 because I wanted the current AK round and I'm glad I did

I have fired many a 5.56 but never even fired a 5.45 before the purchase

    I'm impressed

oh and you can get high cap ak74 magazines all day long for cheap... and they don't require any modification

The surplus AK-74 mags? Or does surefire make them?

I also read that you have to put a guide into the Ak-74 mags so they don't "mash bullets"?

When I have to defend against zombies, there either gonna have 7.62 or .223 so thats why I got .223 so when I destroy them I will have a forever flow of ammo. lol. If I could do it over, I may have gotten the 5.45 cuz the ammo is so much cheaper. but the .223 is a good do it all round. so idk

It all depends on which caliber you already have access to an unlimited supply of.

.223. Non corrosive .223 Wolf is not much more, and is very common.

5.45 military surplus is corrosive and magnetic.
5.45 commercial is non-corrosive but still magnetic.

5.56 in SS109/M855 form is non-corrosive and magnetic.
                    .223 is non-corrosive and non-magnetic.

The range I shoot at doesn't have restrictions about magnetic ammo
                      thanks though

do yourself a favor and get the 5.45
it's a hot round, it's accurate, and it's blast to shoot
When we go shooting it's the first gun everybody wants to pick up

if you want to shoot .223 just use an AR
