The Siege of Yorktown or Battle of Yorktown in 1781 was a decisive victory by combined assault of American forces led by General George Washington and French forces led by General Comte de Rochambeau over a British Army commanded by General Lord Cornwallis. It proved to be the last major land battle of the American Revolutionary War, as the surrender of Cornwallis's army prompted the British government eventually to negotiate an end to the conflict.

I saw that Mel Gibson movie too! Kidding.

They come to our aide once and that means they can thumb their noses at us for the next 200 years? Our saving them twice counts for nothing?

I realize that is a very simplistic way of looking at it, but there is a measure of truth to it. I am not asking them to kiss our butts, just stop looking down at us. Stop poking us with a stick all the time just because we won't poke back.

Compared to every other nation that has been where we are now, the most dominant nation in the world, we are something of gentle giant. That is why they hate us. Because we are not behaving the way they did when they were in our shoes. You hear us compared to Rome all the time. Imagine if Rome's allies behave the way ours do. Imagine if Roman citizens are treated the way our enemies treat ours. History shows pretty damn clearly we are not Rome, or England, or France, or Spain, or Portugal, or Greece, or the Ottomans, or any other superpower before us. For all our flaws, we have been considerably more compassionate than those who came before us. Don't get me wrong, I think that is a good thing. I am just getting tired of our allies kicking us in the shins all the time and then calling us the bully.

I am not proposing any course of action, except maybe stop sucking up to allies who act like enemies. So what if they hate us. We have to do what we have to do. If they don't like the way we choose to protect ourselves from terrorists, too bad. Its not like they can do anything to stop us. They are still going to buy our goods, because trade is in their best interest and not just ours. They don't really care, they just want to look like they care. Its just a chance to thumb their noses at us and poke us with a stick one more time.

They'll love us when we win.

I know they are not out yet. What I meant was that I have to pay retail for the entire rifle when and if it becomes available. I am not an FFL. I am a retailer of parts and accessories. I can therefore get all the parts needed for an AR except for the stripped lower at dealer cost. Can't do that with the Massada or most other weapon systems. So when it comes time to choose a new rifle, I usually just build a different AR variant than I've done in the past. For me to want to buy something that is not an AR, means that if I ever decide to sell it, I loose my shirt. It is a riskier investment. So I have to really, really want it.

I think the history books refer to the General's name as being De Gaule , it helps to get the name right as a student of history .

Yeah, those coffee inspired rants of mine after a night of no sleep are usually riddled with obvious spelling errors. Don't mind me I'm just the guy in the corner office downing the coffee and twitching every so often. Too many all nighters in a row playing this damn Modern Warfare 2.

all I know is those double 1887s are cheap as hell. I have to use them just to get people back. they made mw2 way too arcadey with guys using marathon and lightweight and dual 1887s or tactical knife.

Don't get me started in the damned knives in the game. They are like long-range tactical lightsabres They kill people across the room almost. And no, I am not refering to the throwing knives. I also ran into an interesting statistic. At this point, you have a 40% change of being in a game with at least one hacker in MW2 now. I hope they get punkbuster back. This is getting downright sad.

I think the term ally is being tossed around very loosely these days. Everybody is looking out for #1. Seemingly, the only allies we have in the sandbox that haven't been involved in blatant cases of cowardice or failure, are the Canadians and the Aussies.

                      As for the Italians:

LONDON: Ten French soldiers killed in Afghanistan failed to realise the risks in the area because Italian officials had secretly paid the Taliban to desist from violence, a British newspaper said Thursday. The Times reported that the Italian secret service had been paying tens of thousands of dollars (euros) to…

No kidding, it drives me nuts. And with the commando perk they are able to do it from much farther away and much faster. It is so annoying.
