    Optic+fixed front sight.

I'm interested in getting an optic for my AR but I was wondering how it would be aiming with my fixed front sight. Anyone have any point of view pictures for examples?

Oh and the type of optic doesn't matter.

i think the optic matters, if you run an aimpoint, you can use the sight to cowitness (i think this is a really helpful feature!). if you have a traditional scope, i think you might have a useless dark blob covering the bottom of your sight picture...

I recall a Calgun guy saying he had two AR's with fixed front sights and a telescopic scope and didn't even see the post .

my wife's AR has the standard front sight with a 3-9x42 scope with a 1/2 inch riser and you can't see the front sight at all, my AR has the front sight ground into a gas block with a DD Omega 9.0 rail and flip up sights to clear my aimpoint with magnifier setup.

Any optic above 3x or 4x you wont see the fsp, but if you wanna run a Aimpoint or Eotech and dont want the fsp in the way(co-witness) just get a lower 1/3 mount(Ex. A Larue Tactical mount)

So having the fixed front sight would be good with an aimpoint or eotech?

              Yes...
You can have the same thing with a flip up sight too. My preference is a fixed standard FS though.

Thanks...I have a standard fixed FS, but I would have to get a flip rear sight. I wish the eotechs were able to zoom in I want something with magnification! lol

The matching 3x magnifier to go with the Eotech with a flip to the side mount works great. I find it is all I need on my AR 16" carbine out to 150 yds or so. There is still room behind the magnifier and mount for a fold down sight such as the Troy Battlesight.

How well do the magnifiers work? Its not like looking into a 3-9x40 is it?

We should really start having more "range days" where people can try stuff.

Where do you live? There are local places that stock this stuff.

I wish I still had my arfcom links - there's a thread there that shows the view through a scope (and the FSP) at 1X increments from 1X-10X. Basically the sight begins as a heavy shadow and becomes almost entirely diffuse (invisible) around 3X. This is because the scope is increasingly using a narrower depth of field and the FSP is very close.

The magnifier/red-dot set-up is nice, but most people I know who try it find it heavy and a bit cumbersome.

I live in Socal, the IE to be more specific. The range days sound like a good idea
