Interesting. I've read in some places that the large aperture is for 0-200m shooting distances.

The number 2 sight is for low light, NBC and quick aquisition of target. When i was overseas i always used the number 2 sight. Quicker target aquisition. For range or plinking i do use the regular peep sight.

"shoulder thing that goes up" ?? You must be talking about one of those evil barrel shrouds. and yes, I've read both that the big aperture is for 0-200m... and then there was one for low light conditions. From personal experience, the I just don't use the big one all that often, and as everyone else has been saying, they use the smaller aperture. Thanks guys for the input.

Next question, where does everyone have their cheek weld? You put your nose all the way up to the charging handle latch?

Yes, charging handle touching the nose.

The only time I've used the large one was to qual with CBRN/NBC (whatever you want to call it now) There is no difference in hight of the larger ring to the smaller one so there isnt really a "0-200" yard setting. You are just making a disadvantage to marksmanship by shooting with the large. Everyone is going to have a different preference.
According to what they taught my in OSUT and also what 1st army tells us to do is to put your nose on the charging handle but I prefur further back. If you dont like your charging handle at your nose you need to get a feel where you prefur it so you can put your cheek at the same spot every time. Some guys fold up a little piece of duct take, place it where they want and then tape it more on the stock so they have a reference.

Before anyone talks smack on my badge, I wear it with pride. Quarter way through qual with being made to shoot with a CCO and without buis being zero'd (thanks first army) and my CCO takes a dump. Using kentucky windage and beating the living piss out of my CCO between targets to get it to barely turn on and still got sharp shooter. Would of rather done it irons and gotten expert and wouldnt of had to have an electronic sight go down but hey, not bad for having crap equipment.

My cheek weld is further back. It allows me to compress the rear aperature part of the sight picture closer around the front sight. You need to play around with your sight picture and determine where you will feel comfortable. Once you get it, go through your own snapping in and thousands of repititions.
Someone popping on the muzzle during snapping in is important to take you off target and seeing if you return to target.

On a M15A2, once you establish your battle sight zero, you use the elevation knob on the handle.

If you're old school and feel that your M15A1 (no elevation knob) is your SHTF, last stand or die weapon, get used to Kentucky windage dropping zombies at 450 + meters. Else wise, a 300 meter zeroed A1 will drop' em dead by touching them with the front sight tip and shooting.

P.S. Ditto on the bullet tip, check the seating of the bullet before firing. IF THE BULLET IS PUSHED IN-DON"T FIRE THAT ROUND. Properly loaded bullets should be fine.
