    6mm bullet choice

    Hi All,

    6mm 1-11" twist rate. What is the heaviest bullet it will stabilize?

    Probably about 85-100gr.
    Depends on how large a cartridge you have pushing it and how fast you can drive it.

        It's not the weight of the bullet but rather the length. If the bullet is comprised of lead core with a Cu alloy jacket then probably 85-95grs, (maybe 100grs if you can push it fast enough).

        If you are using a monolithic bullet (all copper alloy) the Cu is not as dense as Lead so a bullet equal weight will be longer. In this case the maximum bullet weight would probably be 75-85grs.

        You also have to take into account some twist variance. With OEM barrels, a 1:11 twist might actually be anything between: 1:10.5-11.5 twist. Custom barrels are much better, but button rifled barrels will vary slightly more than cut rifled barrels.
