    AK47 vs AK74 receiver length

I just wanted to find out if there is a difference in the receiver length of an AK47 vs AK74 receiver.
I know there is a magwell difference, but I am more concerned with receiver length. I'm thinking of an AK variant build and want a shorter receiver without having to cut one down, or fold a 9mm AK flat.

NO difference. What's your idea? I'm thinking a shorter receiver will give you problems with interference of the stock with the internal parts and heavy mods.

The idea is a 7.62x25 build to look like a Vityaz.

I have 2 NDS-3 receivers and Wieger/STG-2000 parts kits. I was going to do twin Romanian Carbine builds, the ones that look like Dracos. After seeing the CNC Warrior milled Romanian receivers, I want to take one kit and use it on a milled receiver.
The left over NDS-3 is now free to do something else with. After seeing the Vityaz, I just have to try and get one done.

        The receiver definitely looks shorter.
You probably seen this, custom krinkov..

I was thinking about a cnc receiver for a bulgarian build with a 16" AK104 style kvar barrel front end.
I'm done with AKs for now though, gotta start on my many AR projects.

I guessed correctly. I would love to clone a Vityaz also.

That is going to require some serious customizing, especially since parts kits for the Vityaz are non-existent.

Luckly, someone has done all of the hard work for you, like qbertquartz2 has already posted.

I don't think you can get the front trunnion any shorter because of the NDS markings up front. You might be able to have them customize the rearend by shortening it a little. They have to cut it for the side folder anyway. You just ship them your Bulg. AKS74U parts and the receiver and the rate is reasonable.

Yeah looks like the front is cut down. I would start with a flat first till you work out the design. Im using one of the ak-builder pistol flats for a 9mm build . Keep us posted.

The Erie Ordnance guys are the ones that got me thinking about this build. Now that they have a dedicated bolt that can be used for 9mm, and x25 builds, things will be easier to do.
They did say the bolt was beating up the rear trunion and that has me a little worried. Hopefully they've got it all ironed out, but I still have reservations about running a shorter receiver.
If I can't get a 100% Vityaz look, I'll be happy with the look they can produce on the std. length receiver.
