Cutting AR Delta Ring

Where is the safest point to cut the delta ring(i'm going to install a midwest/troy ff)? I'm going to use a dremel...

Do you have any pictures of an upper assembly without the delta ring installed?

I might be missing something here, but why would you cut it at all? Why wouldn't you unscrew it and remove the FSB and just slide it off?

Well in that case, I would remove the gas tube, unscrew the delta ring (you can see a bare upper on the bushmaster.com website), put something like a dowel between the delta ring and your barrel to brace it and cut away with your favorite rotary tool or hacksaw.

But now I am wondering how are you going to get the FF tube on if you can't remove the delta ring?

You could also cut down the FSB. Which means you would have to get a flip up site, assuming railed fore end, or go with no FS and just use an optic.

Take a good look at it all and make sure it will work before you start cutting

You missed original poster. He is going to use MI or Troy FF forearm that does not need to disassemble barrel. That's what such type of FF forearms existing for.

To original poster: Just cut it. It's not difficult at all. Be cautious not to cut other parts.

I use BOLT CUTTERS....pops that thing right off.....make sure you are very careful cutting it off as not to mar any of the other stuff.....

Xeno and I have done a bunch of these. If you have talent just cut it with a dremel cut off wheel. Messy but works fine. Paranoid folks can just pop the barrel off.

Cut off wheel, right next to the gas port and another surface cut to the bottom... You want the cut off wheel so that if it slips it will move towards the barrel nut as opposed to the receiver. You only need to go through the outer ring, the thin inner ring that is held by the spring will break. Once you get a cut through on the top and a shallow cut on the bottom, use a screwdriver to separate. It's a simple operation, takes maybe 5 minutes. Get a shirt or paper towel and tape it over the receiver, and do the same for the barrel side, the aluminum shavings tend to fly and stick wherever they land. No biggie if you have an air compressor.
