    Marlin 30-30 help

I just picked up a twenty or so year old Marlin 30-30 from my old man's place, and I am looking at refinishing the old girl. It's a 336 lever action, and I want to reblue it (a few rough spots), and sand and refinish the stock. The rear stock is a piece of cake to remove, but I can't seem to get the forend off. Any trick to removing that piece, as well as the clamps that hold the magazine tube to the barrel? I don't want to break anything, but even after backing out the screws, nothing will budge. Thanks!

Depends on where the mag tube barrel band is, if behind front sight, remove screw for same, then bbl band. This allows some play between mag and bbl.

'Squeeze' the two together and gently tap forestock band forward(off). Forestock should be able to wiggle a little and ease forward. After that, my mag tube pretty much slipped right out.
The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.

Some idiots are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything

So i should remove the mag tube, then try to remove the forend? I don't leave the magtube in place and just slide the forend off?
