    undecided

I am considering trading my unfired su-16A for a m1 carbine. I really like the old reliable war proven design of the carbine and really am not so hot for the whole plastic design of the SU-16. I am wondering if this would be considered a resonable trade if I was to go through with it?? I am in the south bay area, if that helps. Thanks for the help.

Reasonable trade in terms of value or trade in terms of personal preference? Cause it seems you already made up your mind.

Just outright buy a M1, keep the SU16 for your pre-ban mags, that's why I have an SU16. (Shot, Zeroed, Stored)

I am talking in terms of value. I am planning to move out of state in the next few years anyway, so pre-ban mags are not a concern. Unfortunately, I am not in the financial position to buy a new rifle right now.

Here's the link to the CMP sales page for M1 carbines: http://www.thecmp.org/m1carbine.htm

What could you get for your rifle on the open market?

Be sure to note what make the m1 carbine is. Do NOT get Universal m1 carbines. Go on gunbroker.com and search m1 carbine to get an idea of what certain types of carbines go for. Old war surplus or GI models are the best, if they work well and are in good condition, but can be some of the most expensive. Inland, Winchester, Saginaw, Underwood, IBM, Rock-Olla, and CMP m1's are really good ones.
EDIT: Also some more good makers of the M1: National Postal Meter, Quality Hardware Manufacturing Corp., Standard Products (These are WWII producers of the GI carbine). Post-war: Auto-Ordinance

Good info. Thanks for that Cali-shooter. I am not 100% sure this is a good way to go. As I mentioned, this is something I am considering. I do know that it has to be one or the other because I can't afford a new rifle right now.

If you like the carbine more, then go for it. The M1 carbine definitely has more history. The Keltec is more accurate and lighter. Plus, it folds and you can more easily find ammo for it. The 5.56 round is also superior to the .30 caliber carbine round. The Keltec is arguably better at the vary purpose the the M1a was designed for.

Keltecs get no lover around here though. Too bad both isn't an option.

If the carbine is in good condition, and is by a decent manufacturer, I'd go for the trade. But, another option would be:

                      Sell the Kel-tec

Like I said, this thread is just to get a general idea of my options. I probably will just keep it and save up money for a CMP carbine. Thanks everyone.

to kill commies? since the m1a wasn't really designed to shoot at rabbits

i am hoping that was a typo.. theres not a rationally thinking human in the world that thinks a kel-tec is better than an m1A
