Value on breakdown Model 97 or Model 12?

Hey guys... whats the approximate value/cost on a shooter-grade (meaning a truck gun/shooter non collector) Model 1897 *or* Model 12 break-down pump shotgun??

I REALLY wanna get a '97 break down with the mag-dump buttons but I'm not sure what they are worth/what they cost.

I see '97's go from $ 400 on up depending on condition. I've only seen 1 model 12 and it was in a gunstore and they were asking $ 495.

Well, I guess I went against the grain...and will inevitably pisssomeone off~ I bought one 1897 off a member here for $100 Finish was less than 50% but in decent working order...and now for the Blasphemy! I had her bead blasted and put a coat of Gunkote on her Still have to re-go through the bolt and clean it up; but there ARE deals to be had if you're patient....
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered....

Model 1897's sell for $300 in the white, and up to $500-$600 with 60-80% finish if the stock has not been cut for a recoil pad, or the barrel hasn't been chopped for a Cutts or similar compensator. Model 12s sell for about the same price range, but one in the white would be about $225, where a 60-80% finish that is uncut would hit the $500-$550 range with a full choke. Shotguns with Mod chokes that are uncut and have more than 80% finish have a premium, around $750 and up. I'm talking retail gun store prices, not what you might be lucky enough to find if you get a 'brother' deal or from someone who doesn't know what they have.

          Hope that helps.

Yah man, that helps a lot.

I'd like to find one that I could paint and cut the barrel down to 18.5" and cut the LOP down a tad...heck I'd even consider a pistol grip

I dont care about collector value, I want one for a couple reasons, but not for keeping it nice or anything.

Thanks for all the help, I'd much rather have a serviceable reliable '97 than my 500A, if it were a take down/mag dump model.

P.s. Do they make 20GA version? I prefer 12GA but 20GA or 16GA is ok too.

              Just buy the Norinco copy

if you plan to fool with it.

I have a 1942 and they don't make them this well any more.

Does the Norinco copy break down tho??? Ive heard they do and Ive never been able to confirm it one way or another.

I specifically want one for that feature.

I have a takedown 97 which I bought cut down for $200. Great gun but I would never have cut it down myself.

The Norinco's/IAC are patterned after the Solid Frame variant so they're not really able to be taken down. They were made in 16 ga. but not 20 ga.

You may be able to "take them down" but there are 2 models refered to as solid frame and takedown models.

Here's my 97' takedown model I bought last summer. 12GA modified choke & Made in 1915. Bought it for $99 OTD! This thing is a tack driver (as far as shotguns go) I took it out and fired 250 rounds through it and busted 250 clays!

                              Damn,

I did not realize that the Model 12 could be worth this much. My father gave me a mint condition Model 12. This thing is pristine with out a scratch on it. He bought two right after the Watts riots in L.A. when the SDPD would not furnish their officers with shotguns. He had one cut down into a short barrel the other was unused and stored. I would always pull it out and wipe it down with gun oil to keep it in good shape as a kid. Didn't expect to get it, but glad I did. I'll have to keep the value a secret from my brother though.
