    Best CA Legal Lower?

    Hello Everyone,

I'm getting ready to start an AR build. My question for all of you is: Who makes the best Cali legal lower and where can I buy one? I just want a good quality, basic Mil-Spec AR. Thanks in advance!

The best OLL is the one you like the best? Just a guess.

Stay away from Vulcan/Hesse, otherwise pick your favorite design/rollmark

as long as it is mil spec, they are all the same thing...minus the logo..i would buy whichever one is cheapest, unless having matching brands on your parts is important..

In terms of finish, my favorites are Mega or Spikes Tactical. Both have a nice deep black finish. With the Mega you get the "meat masher" feature on the mag well and with the Spikes you can get some really good color fill or laser engaving work.

Most lowers are pretty generic as stated. There are really just a handful of companies that actually make the lower then these other retailers do some finishing touches on them and slap their name on it. There are a couple companies that actually mill their own receivers like Sun Devil which I like but you pay a tad more. I would personally put more effort into finding and upper because that is where the true variences are. Popular lowers are CMMG, S&W, Stag, Spikes, mega... just to name a few. It would good for you to go take a look at them and compare. Look at the edging and the mill work and see which one looks the best to you. Check the magwell and see the beveled area there. My personal favorite is Sun Devil but I have a thing for milled parts as opposed to cast. Nothing wrong with cast at all, just like machining. CMMG, S&W and spikes have nice finishes and the cast flashings are very well taken off. Have a DSA coming so we will see how that one is. hehe

My first build I used a Territorial Gunsmiths lower - a very nice unit. I eventually matched it with a 14.5 CMMG upper. I ended up with an additional upper, so my next build I went with a CMMG lower just to match it up. I'm glad I did.

BTW - My next lower (am I really saying this???) will be a Calguns.

i have a CMMG lower with no complaints

as others have said, most lowers are the same. Just find a good price and buy it!

uppers are obviously a different story

I have an LMT and a CMMG. I'm not really sure that either one is better than the other.

My brother has 2 Spikes and they're fine, as well...

As stated previously, there are some to avoid but most are okay...
