    On November 10, Mikhail Kalashnikov, the famed designer of small arms, celebrated his 90th birthday.

                More like improve on it. The STG44 was a wuss of a gun. Couldn't even handle sustained fire that well. Couldn't pour sand all over it and run over it and expect it to fire. He took another high maintenance German gun and made it a usable.
