    Wish list: AK47..but which one?

I know that 100% i will have an AK in my collection someday, but i really dont know too much about which one i should buy. I want one with a wood stock and handle, preferably high quality and finished. I like blonde wood and dark wood, but not the redwoods i have seen. Do they have mahagony (lol)...I dont want any underfolder or all black, metal AKs that have been peiced together. i am only buying one AK and i want it to be NICE, doesnt need to be gold plated or ivory, but must be NICE and if i gotta spend more im fine with that.

I was thinking WASR because i want my AK to be european born, but are the American AKs (lancaster) comparable?

    Any advice glady appreciated.

Oh and i have checked the other AK threads and everyone seems to be recomending new school versions with foward grips and all forged parts.

I want a CLASSIC AK, a nice mesh of finished wood and machinery. No fancy tacticool parts.

I kinda like this one but i would rather have a european made AK...

First I think you should worry about a quality receiver build like an Arsenal, Saiga, or NDS. After that there are so many furniture variations. I have at least 3 or 4 buttstocks, 5 or 6 hand guards and a few different gas tubes. They are all inexpensive and interchangable so it really depends on your mood at the time. I finally had a Bulgy Krink conversion done on my RAW ak so i am pretty much locked in but I sure don't regret it.

That is a euro style AK with what appears to be a NDS receiver and a wood chinese grip.

I read atlantic had some egyptian kits built so that might be one of them. Egyptian rifles were built on Tula machinery from Russia.

The best deals out there are the SGL rifles for 500, I also like the wood furniture on the 762s, so with that said, I'd buy a sar 1, rpm, gsad, or sa 85, those being stamped receiver. Milled I'd buy a mak 91, sa 93, or have one built on a US made milled receiver. (ps I think down folders are awesome for the 762s, especially milled, a true classic with a little german influence..)

WASRs and Lancasters will be from the same place (romania). Could be wrong though, but I think Lancasters are built up from Romanian kits and finished off real nice. Look to spend about 900 though. They look damned nice. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Get an SGL-21 for $500, if you don't like the plastic furniture, you can buy wood.

get a lancaster, they're the cleanest AK's around! i'm not an AK guy but i love my lancasters. i've had a few by centrury, entreprise, etc. but sold them all to get the lancasters. see one in person and you'll see what i mean.

Nice AK but i want one with WOOOOD!!

Is there a particular wood that is better than another? I like the look of blonde or lighter brown, dont want a reddish brown AK.

I would prefer a 16" RML with the threaded barrel. I like the pharaoh hieroglyph on the rear sight block, really cool Egyptian. A Steyr would be the ultimate though.

Arsenal is the only one worth the $ IMHO
