I have an early 90s Featherweight in .30-06. It is very accurate and pretty light for carrying but the .30-06 can be a beast to shoot in this light of a rifle. If I could do it again it would be in 7mm-08. This round will do anything that the .308 or .30-06 will on deer sized game. the 7mm-08 has less recoil and a flat trajectory with good terminal ballistics. The .30-06 was the answer for the limitations of the early 20th century technology but is too long of a case and too large a caliber for the needs of today.
