in my opinion (i own a 1941 round reciever) if your not a strict collector. And you just want one to shoot (they kinda hurt ) just get the best condition one. Or the cheapest, whichever is more important.

read up on http://7.62x54r.net/ . Tons of great info!

I just bought one for $99 at Big 5 which is a steal!

Generally, the older ones are more valuable and wanted. If you find one with a hex receiver and older date (19XX-1930) buy it! Look for barrel pitting/condition. Also look at the top handguard (if it goes underneath the rear sight all the way back it's a rare gun)
