    AK Wood Stain Color

What is the name of the stain color here:

I've finally cleaned off all the wood for my AK build and don't know what color stain I should be getting. Any help appreciated!

Soviet firearms are traditionally finished with shellac, which gives it a reddish-orange color depending on the type of shellac used (it is available in different colors). Use the correct finish (shellac) and you won't need stain.

    More info on shellac http://www.milsurpshooter.net/topic/...r-Friends.html

Shellac finishes are available at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. but it is best to use furniture-quality shellac. Convenient kits are available from http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=6548

    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

If you have one local to you, you can pick up some button 'lac at Woodcraft. http://www.woodcraft.com/Stores/ Get the nastiest, bug parts infested button shellac you can find. Flake isn't "authentic" enough. Mix it up in some denatured alcohol (or everclear if you can't stand buying subsidized alcohol) and slop it everywhere like the vodka soaked factory workers in Tula and Izhevsk were prone to do, drippy and runny.

Let it dry at least ten minutes after the first coat, buff with 0000 steel wool and boiled linseed oil, let sit for another ten minutes and wipe dry. Let it dry for 24 hours and apply another coat of shellac.

The more coats you apply, the deeper the finish. You can make the wood look like a fine french antique if you spend enough time on it. Shellac is magic. Cleans up a helluva lot easier than anything else and is non-toxic, M&M's used to be coated in shellac.

Would the color shown in the picture be considered Orange?

Garnet is the color you are looking for. The depth of the finish determines the final color.
