Question re: CA "registered" assault weapons...

    Greetings,
I just received my CA military AW permit!! The permit lists the weapons I registered with make, model, ser. #, and cal.
    My question is this:
Can I legally switch uppers on a registered AR series weapon if it changes the caliber? ie; It's registered as .223, but I want to put a 9mm upper on it etc.
    Thanks in advance...

Let me guess, active US military?
To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

And make sure you bring a copy of that AW registration whenever you take that rifle shooting.

Took me three days to get my paperwork back from DOJ. I had to call them several times though to push it along.

So let me get this straight, if a person is Active duty military, they can register a "military" AW? What is "military" AW? Do you have to surrender AW when you leave the military?

A CA military AW permit allows for the registration of "assault weapons" (as defined by the CA DOJ) by active duty military members. The weapon/s must have been purchased prior to receiving orders to CA. Once the servicemember leaves the military, they must relinquish the forbidden weapons (according to CA law) if they wish to continue to reside within CA. Or keep them and leave!

I'm glad I only sold half of my "banned" weapons prior to moving out here!! Now I know better.

California does suck in certain regards.

But you should look up some of the firearms laws in other states (New York for example).

Some of them almost make California laws look good!

Call them and ask about its progress. I had to call a few times. Finally, the last time I called, I got someone that was actually helpful. She pushed it through and the paperwork came in the mail in a few days.
