I am thinking that the overall length of the bolt might be to long. If someone has an armalite and dpms bolt handy that can give me the overall length I would appreciate it.

So frustrated.

Are you using a regular AR carbine buffer tube? AR-10 tubes are longer to allow more rearward travel of the bolt carrier.

Sorry it has a magpul PRS stock so it is an A2 tube

I have an Armalite SASS upper that was short stroking and I thought it was an issue similar to yours. It turns out the gas ports were out of spec (from the factory). I sent it in and Mark at Armalite fixed it up and sent it back, no charge. They have a great warranty there.

Anyway, this is the bolt from the Armalite SASS:

I trimmed about 1/16th of an inch off the buffer end cap. Seems to cycle fine now. Seems pretty accurate granted I was only shooting 25yds.

Was it a rifle length 308 buffer or a 223 buffer? There is a difference you know right?

Yeah. .223 buffers are too long. the .308 models are about .25" smaller. That was definitely the issue.

Yup, I had an AR-15 buffer in my AR-10, wouldn't cycle rounds properly. Got that fixed and it worked great after that.
