Anyone got AK in 223? How you like em?

I decided i want a AK74. I think the 5.45x39 is cool and cheap but maybe I want a .223 cuz I can reload it. How are they? Easy to get mags. And who has them for sale. I get some money next month and want one.

Mags are harder to find. They tend to be less reliable than 7.62x39 AKs and have more FTF.

I love them. As long as you have the correct magazine for the rifle, it will work fine. Mine do. The thing with .223 Kalashnikov's is that each country developed their own version of the magazine independently. The mags are not mil-spec like AK 47 & AK 74 magazines.

haha how did I know 69mach1 would beat me to this thread!! I have had my saiga .223 for 5 months. I have kept it stock thus far and really love it. Really fun to shoot, I havent had an FTF after 1000 rounds of wolf/brown bear. It is true about the mags. but I you search you can find a good deal on the saiga 10 rounders (I had a guy sell me 3 for 50 bucks).

              i like my saiga .223
currently there is no domestic manufacturer for 5.45x39 (don't know what happened to hornady's program), and that may become a problem in the future

I had two Norinco MAK90 in 223 a while ago and it had the 30/20 round Norinco steel mags. I did not have any problems. I also used the Russian Bakelite Mags and just bent the follower a little bit so it would support the 223 round and did not have any problems with those either.

Both myself and my dad have Saiga in 223. No problems with either of them. I use the stock mags and surefire mags both work great. Stay away from Pro Mag though, read alot of issues with those mags.

Oh if you get a Saiga and plan on reloading you will have to make a few mods to the gun to avoid denting the casings.

I Like mine, for what it is, an AK that uses the same ammo as an AR.

                          I love them...

(some one was bound to post a picture of their guns, figure id beat em' to it)

everything ppl have said above is pretty much dead on:
                          -they are sweet
                          -dont use promags
-mags are harder to come by
-need to mod topcover to prevent dings (although will the dings prevent you from reloading? mine get some bad dings but someone said it should be fine to reload)

Pretty straigh forward, it is an AK after all

                              Why that's a K101 of course..

I like the saiga 223's they can run anything.

Last time I took my Norinco out it did not run to well with brass case ammo. It was rebarreled, so hopefully I'll get to try some steel case next time.
