AR & AK dirt/sand reliability test videos

The guys over at Cavalry Arms did some tests on the AR-15 and AK, burying them in dirt and firing. Results may be surprising to some...

Yes, and everyone laughed at the ejection side down bury with port door closed...the port closed facing up, then open...but face down.
If that was an answer to the H&K or "one more for the haters"...it was a bit of an embarrassment to us DI guys as the test proved nothing more than a dusty exterior DI can fire.

Weird, I though the AK was designed to be used by idiots submerged in dirt/crap and still function perfectly, or at least thats what everybody on CG implies

Sorry, those "tests" seem like bs. Id like to see an ar cut in half in a third world nation with a tourch, brought over here re-assembeled by a monkey and be expected to function like before.

But then agin the "testing" wasent done by anyone who wanted to sell you something

An AR has a port door...or dust cover.

First he buried it face down, so obviously the bolt wont be getting any dirt on it or in it with that closed and face down. He put the dirt on the opposite side.

Then he closed the port door and put dirt on top of the closed port door...still no dirt getting into it.

Then he left it open but once more face down and piled dirt on the opposite side...

All that showed was that dirt or dust on the exterior of the weapon...will not stop it from firing. No dirt or dust made it inside of the AR..

                      Its a sham...not a real test.

How is buying an Ak parts kit and building it from a receiver any different than buying an AR parts kit and building it from a receiver? Rivets are a bit harder than roll pins, but a monkey could still put them in.

The tests are kind of goofy. Frankly it is either sad or hilarious, I am not sure which one, when people act surprised when an AR's extertior is coated with mud, sand, or some sort of debris and than it fires. On the flip side of the coin, people saying that nothing will stop an AK from firing are equally as clueless.

Chris from Addax and I were talking about the GPU vs DI a couple days ago at his shop and he said something that I had completely forgotten about and that is that the sand in the Middle East is far different from the sand we have here. The sand here is thicker, from the books I have read, the sand over there is far thinner and powdery. The sand gets everywhere far easier than the sand here. Bottom line is using the sand/dust here to test your carbine is not an accurate way to gauge how your rifle would do there, that goes for any rifle not just the AR.

I C, thanks for pointing that all out. But you still agree with the video in the sense that the AK preformed poorly?

Watch all the videos. In one the AR dust cover is open and facing up. He even rolls over it in a jeep, and it only fails to go back to battery.

                              Not really.

If its a comparison, then one has exposed components the other doesn't. The AR portion seemed to be a sham. They went through greater lengths IMO to dirty the AK than they did the AR.

In addition that was a 5.45, not a 7.62. IMO the 7.62 would have done better.
