Bore Sighting

So I bought a bore sight for my AR-15 and was wondering if there where any tips on dialing it in when I take it out to the range. I will be sighting in my Eotech at 50 Yards? See below this is the one I bought.

I zeroed my AR using a laser bore sighter. I zeroed for 50 yards, but stood at 25 yards and put POI 1.16" lower than POA. I just drew 2 target areas 1.16" apart, aimed at the top one and adjusted the dot until POI was in the lower target area. You will probably need a reflective target if you are doing this during the daylight. The laser is not very bright at distances.

Upon firing my first three round group I found I was 1" too high, but perfectly aligned horizontally. I made an adjustment once and was dead on with my next group.

The laser is hard to see in daylight. Recommend that you use a special laser reflective target http://www.opticsplanet.net/laserlyt...-0006-000.html

I bought one of those bore-sighters and it was a POS. Like Milsurp said, you can't see it in daylight. Also, out of the box mine was so far off it was worthless. It was something like 3" off at 15 feet. I didn't even attempt to take it to a range.

Your eyeball looking down through the barrel makes a pretty good boresighter too.

Just use your laser bore sighter at night. Just line up the eotech dot and the laser at 50 yards at night. Easy, and that should get you on paper, then do your fine adjustments. You don't need reflective targets or anything else. So it may take you a few more shots to get it properly sighted in. Don't spend any more money than you need to, unless you want to.

it works. just get your upper on a bipod or bags, make sure its stable and look through the barrel and get it on target. then without shifting the upper adjust the scope/sight to the same spot. DONE. confirm with a few shots to get it perfect.

Is your rifle zeroed yet? just looked at your sig and thats a pretty damn nice rifle....hopefully someone can help you out with that lol. Like somone said, takes maybe 10 minutes looking through the bore.

had a friend show me how to do it with a bolt-gun I bought several months ago... it's amazing how well it works but if you think about it there's no reason why it shouldn't. The only really crucial part is that you do not let the upper shift AT ALL once you get the barrel on target. I just use the gun vise I have in my garage, but I've done it several times with bags too...

I use a Sightmark laser boresight, the one that looks like a 5.56 round and seats in the chamber. I have always done my sight work at night, from inside my garage, to accross the street on my neighbors garage door. You need to rest the rifle on something to help keep it steady. The boresight does not "lie" at close range, and I have used mine to zero Eotechs, Aimpoints, and irons. Then I fine-tune at the range, only if I have a rest.
