AR15 Charging Handle Question (Stag 2HT)

I have a question about my newly assembled AR... this is my first time around so bare with me here. I just put on a complete Stag 2HT upper and when locking open the action, the charging handle is free and doesnt lock back.

My question is when locking back the bolt, is the charging handle supposed to lock back as well? or should it be free?

It should be free. There is nothing that would push it forward, the charging handle just sits in that little groove on the top of the upper.

That's normal.

normal. just push it back forward, and latch it to the upper receiver.
