I'm curious about this too, I'm clueless about AR's. What is the difference between the A2 buffer and the CAR buffer (besides length)? Any functional difference?

While I haven't attempted to, my intuitive guess would be no. The A2 tube fits perfectly into the round hole in the A2 stock. The CAR tube is not round.

Plus I believe the castle nut and lock plate would interfere with the fitment of the A2 stock onto the receiver.

          Its not a stupid question.

The A2 tube is round and the CAR tube has the detents or holes for lack of a better word for the the stock to lock into and if you look at the stock from the read you see that it has a key shaped hole that the tube slides in.

SO if you tried to use the A2 tube on the CAR stock there would be no place for the stock to lock onto and If you tried to use the CAR tube in an A2 stock the stock would not fit as the CAR tube is not round.

Also the car tube does not have the threaded hole for the bolt to attach the A2 stock.

The tubes are different shapes and won't fit, but what about the buffer itself? Are they interchangeable?

Buffers should work but not properly.

A2 stock uses rifle buffer, CAR stock uses CAR buffer.

The A2 buffer is longer and tends to weigh more than the shorter CAR buffer.
